KERRY BLUE JUDGE SOUTH WALES 13

Thank you to the exhibitors for their entry and to the society for inviting me to judge at their show. The presentation was very good, but some care must be taken not to lose the correct Kerry coat. The breed standard calls for soft, silky plentiful and wavy. I know over the years the coat has tended to be more of a tight curl, but that does not mean that the coat should be harsh. We also seem to be losing the pigmentation in the mouths with several being patchy instead of dark.

JD (1):

1. Miss M & Mr S Dale & Cooper LYNNSTO BLUE RUSSIAN. 14 month old dog, Good type with correct head, dark eye, and scissor bite. Strong neck leading to good lay back of shoulder. Nice spring of rib with good depth of chest. Movement was a bit close, but he held his topline on the move. The coat was just starting to turn and was soft and silky. Challenged hard for the RCC, but played up at the end.

OD (3):

1 Mr. R. Tasselli’s IT.CH. BALBOA RAY BAN (ATC AM00672ITA). Good type, bigger than I usually like, but had to accept the quality of this exhibit. Excellent head long and lean, dark eye, scissor bite, correct pigmentation, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, short coupling, well sprung rib with good depth. Beautiful silky coat and colour, Very alert and showing all the time, moved and handled well. DCC & BOB

2. Mr D & Mrs J O'Rourke KEBULAK ROCKIN ROBIN (Sh.CM). Well balanced dog, dark eye, scissor bite, strong neck, well laid shoulders, deep well sprung ribs, short coupling, Moved true in front, but a bit close in rear movement. RCC.

3. Miss C Clarke-O'Neill’s LEMRACDREAM THE NAVIGATOR

PGB (2):

1 Miss C & Ms L Clarke-O'Neill & Neen’s LEMRACDREAM BLUE IVY. Lovely young bitch, well balanced, very alert and showed well, Good head with dark eye, scissor bite, used her ears well. Reachy neck, good shoulders, tail on top, Nice coat just starting to turn. Moved true and held her topline on the move.

2 Mr D & Mrs J O'Rourke KEBULAK HOT AS HELL. Short coupled bitch, used her ears well, but her bite was uneven, good shoulders, well sprung and deep ribs. Colour coming through. Preferred the overall balance and movement of 1.

LB (1):

1 Mrs C & Mrs C W Forrest & Scott’s LACARNAVEEN ORLA. Top size bitch, but well balanced, correct scissor bite, dark eye, used her ears well. Strong neck leading to good shoulders. Deep, well sprung rib, short coupled, good tail carriage, front movement good, but a bit close behind, dark blue coat but would prefer it silkier.

OB (2)

1. Ms P Munro’s CH NEMIAH POETRY IN MOTION ARKAMA. A bitch that well deserves her title, lovely lean, long head, scissor bite, dark eye, used her ears well. Reachy neck into well laid shoulders. Good spring of rib, and depth of chest, level topline, correct set on. Beautiful silky coat, of correct texture. Played up a bit on the move, but when settled moved well. CC

2. Mrs C & Mrs C W Forrest & Scott’s LACARNAVEEN MARY KATE. This is a bitch I have always admired from the ringside, and she didn’t disappoint to go over. A well balanced bitch, with compact powerful body, good head, with a dark eye and scissor bite. Moved well around the ring. She only lost out to 1 on the quality of her coat, RCC.
