MANCHESTER CRUFTS 18 Judge(s): MRS P GORE A big thank you to my excellent stewards who made my job so much easier. I had been looking forward to this appointment for a long time and I went into the showring with a very open mind. I judged the dogs on the day and this is reflected in some of the placings. I like terriers to have some "get up and go" and I found this to be somewhat lacking. Our standard calls for keen, alert, gay and sporting. Some of the bitches are bigger than the dogs! I like feminine bitches and masculine dogs. however, both should be elegant with substance. 1 Oblinson & Kelly's Paucelin Andoni At Carapast. Today was this dog's day and he deserved this place. Deep chest and well placed shoulder. Good front movement. He had a good eye with an alert expression and used his ears well. Nice size. 2 Dunford, Akrigg & Walton's Ch/NDL Ch Quixol Alexander. This is a super dog in hard condition. However, I preferred the size of first place. Movement today was good but at times handler seemed to be struggling to keep up which spoiled his topline on the move. A worthy champion. 3 Broadhurst's Churtnet Chorus. Another nice dog of a different type. Lots of bone and upto standard. In tip top hard condition but would have liked to have seen a little more terrier spirit. Presenting a nice picture but movement today was a little unsteady. Again I preferred size of first. 1 Dale, Saxton & Bovill's Rattustrap Pot Kettle Black. Front movement a little loose but at 10 months old this has lots of time to harden up. Super head and eye with a keen and alert expression. Nice lay of shoulder. Best Puppy Dog. 1 Priestman's Manrio Dark Beau At Emblenesque. Lovely size, with good wedge shaped head. Eye perhaps not his best feature but nevertheless presents a pleasing picture. Good depth of rib and nice topline. Movement was good enough to win him his place. 2 Gregory & Barkowsky's Talanors Diamond Trickster Jun Lux Ch/Jun Kft Ch. Presented in tip top condition. Nice head with good ear carriage and tailset. Ample neck and good topline. Rear well muscled. Movement today I did not consider as good as that of first place winner. 1 Andrew's Magpiebank Tern For Texanger. Lovely dog with nice head and reach of neck. Good terrier expression and temperament. He had the spirit which was I thought somewhat lacking in today's entry. Super deep chest and good bend of stifle. Well balanced. Moved out well. 2 Smith's Simjest Serious Moonlight. I did like his size and overall shape but preferred deeper chest of class winner. Ears well placed giving a good expression. Correct shaped head but not as strong as that of my first place. Tail set good. 3 Aspden's Extraco Tony Wilson. Upto size. Nice head with good ear carriage. Well marked. Movement today was a little erratic spoiling his topline which when standing presents a nice picture. 1 Willis' Talanors Super Treat ShCM. RCC. Nice size with good bone. Slight rise over loin. Good feet. Liked head and ear carriage. Ears used well giving a good terrier expression. Good depth of brisket. I considered movement to be one of the best today. Delighted to award the RCC. 2 Holmes' Egloshayle Black Dylan. Elegant dog with good bone. Strong head with dark eye which gave a keen expression. Ears set correctly. Good shoulder, clean front and good bend of stifle. Looked balanced both standing and on the move. 3 Hebb's Paucelin Falster JW. Lovely head and expression, with small, well positioned ears. Well muscled hindquarters. Dark eye of correct shape. In lovely hard condition. Moved freely. 4 Almond's Eaglespur Classic Charmer. 5 Straughan & Cripps' Talanors In For A Treat. 1 Carter's Ch Digelsa Declaration. What can I say that has not already been said. A quality dog in rock hard condition. Best movement and most alert expression of all today's entry. Well boned but with an elegant profile. Good topline which he kept on the move. Super head, eye of correct shape and colour, good ear carriage. The handler showed this dog to perfection. CC & BOB. Over the moon to learn later he took fourth in terrier group. 2 Murphy's Ir Ch/Aust Ch Dixiedaly Doc Holliday (IKC). Lovely size and in super hard condition. Correct eye shape and ear carriage. Good layback of shoulder. Moved very well. Scored on tail carriage but nit-picking I would have preferred a darker eye. 3 Church's Rattustrap Charlie Brown. Good head and ears but again would prefer a darker eye. Correct front. A good turn of stifle, moved well. 4 Harrison's Ch Magpiebank Ash. 5 Charlton's Ch Digelsa Done N'Dusted At Lizelms. 1 Olbinson & Kelly's Paucelin Andoni At Carapast. Please see veteran dog comments. 2 Harrison's Ch Magpiebank Ash. Elegant and sound with substance. Good wedge shaped head and nice elegant neck. Tail carried well. Strong hindquarters and in lovely hard condition. A little too big for me but a super dog who definitely deserved his crown. 1 Palmer's Ch Egloshalye Sea Lily. Oldest veteran bitch and she deserved her class today. A lovely picture both standing and on the move. A worthy champion with good breed points. I was pleased to award her Best Veteran. 2 Oxley's Ch Digelsa De Ja Vu JW ShCM. Another quality bitch we have come to expect from this kennel. Presented in tip top condition and with all the relevant breed points. Looking super for her 7 years, but my first place was 9 years old and it was a hard choice for me. 1 Church, Dale & Saxton's Rattustrap Fade To Black (A1). 10 months old puppy full of confidence. Good ears which she used well giving a lovely expression. Nice eye and well bodied for one so young. 2 Goodwin's Digelsa Date Night At Holtaire. 11 mths of correct size with nice elegant outline. Feminine head with good ear carriage and nice eye. Moved well. 1 Olbinson & Kelly's Rattustrap Citra At Carapast. Size within standard. Lovely feminine head and excellent ear carriage. Good neck and shoulders. Very difficult choice between first and second placing. I thought movement today was slightly better than second. 2 Knight's Talanors Typically Special. Another quality bitch with nice head. Good outline and tuck up. Small v shaped ears which gave an alert expression. Nicely marked with good tail carriage. 3 Dale, Saxton & Emrick's Rattustrap Bitter'n Twisted (A1). What a quality litter this must have been. Litter brother and sister took first placings in their classes today and similar comments apply. Lots to like about this one and a typical example of the breed. Not as mature as placings one and two in this class, as at this age 3 months, makes a lot of difference. One to watch. Awarded Best Puppy in Breed. Litter sisters both have different attributes. Just my preference today. 1 Knight's Talanors Diamond Treat. Elegant with nice head and expression. Used ears well giving her a lovely expression. Well balanced with a good tail set which presented a good overall picture. Moved soundly. 2 Harrison's Magpiebank Teal. Liked this one a lot but didn't think front was quite as good as my first place. Elegant with a good reach of neck. Ears a little heavy but used well. Good shoulder and moved with drive. Tip top condition. 3 Savile's Simjest Back To Black By Dobermatian JW. A bitch I admire, but today carrying too much weight which made her look a little too doggy for me. Scores in head of correct shape with dark eye. Up to size but well balanced. I was disappointed with this placing as when carrying less weight she looks a different bitch. 1 Walker's Ch Talanors Treat Me Good At Sizlin. CC. Well balanced feminine bitch with excellent head. Correct ears, good shoulder and angulation. Good turn of stifle and moved with confidence. Nice topline which she kept on the move. Well marked with good tail carriage. It was nice to see such a happy disposition and she was a worthy CC winner. 2 Barlow's Nightfury Bold Venture JW. RCC. A little more substance than first and a different type but a very good example of the breed. Good size for me and well marked. Liked the feminine head with dark eye. Nice markings, good angulation front and rear. Moved out well. Handled to advantage. 3 Cawley's Ch Marlablue In A Twirl ShCM. A worthy champion. Super for size with a good head, eye and ear carriage. Tan a little on the light side for me. Would have liked a little bit more sparkle which seemed lacking today. 1 Olbinson & Kelly's Rattustrap Citra At Carapast. See junior bitch. 2 Keates' Rattustrap Roaring Meg At Haamblet ShCM. Up to size. Good head. Lovely deep chest and good angulation. Lost topline on the move. Super condition and handled to perfection. |
