MANCHESTER JUDGE PAIGNTON 22

It is always a delight to judge at one of my favourite shows. Such a lovely Devon welcome, a laid back atmosphere and a committee who have the exhibitors at heart. Glorious weather made for a grand time for all. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.
A breed I am obviously closely involved with and I actively show, week to week when other obligations allow. This does make the decisions a little more difficult, as it is difficult not to feel for the exhibitors who have paid their money all looking for those top awards, you have to put that aside and judge the dogs on the day. The dogs presented today were a credit to their owners, all in good hard condition with good jackets and clean dentition, which is not always the case in other breeds. The hall at Paignton is not ideally suited to Manchester terriers and I do believe some dogs would have performed better outside, on the grass with the sun on their backs.

Puppy Dog (1)

1st: 2978 BROWN, Mr Gareth & DAVIES, Ms Mandy Wystry Dempsey's Tipple. Just a baby and not fully schooled at present, but liked this young fellow. He is going to be of ideal size, balanced and well angled throughout. Pleasing through head, good neck and a lovely front assembly. Already has depth and well ribbed. Substance throughout. Tidy over croup with a decent tailset. Clear markings and a good vent. Was tidy on the move when settled with positive movement from behind.

Open Dog (5)

A class of dogs that are all worthy of Champion status and I was nit picking on final decisions, based on the virtues of each dog. I tried to give all equal opportunities to impress.

1st: 2985 OXLEY, Mr M, Mrs G M & Miss S R Ch Digelsa Double Agent. There’s a lot of this guy, a little bit more than I would prefer, but his other virtues tick the boxes. This dog excelled in head, good wedge, with strength, dark correctly shaped eye, smart ears which were well carried and strong dention. When stood he gave a lovely outline, both topline and under carriage, with depth, flowing lines and stood four square. He kept the shape on the move, looking great in profile, however would prefer cleaner front movement. Put down in good condition and clear markings throughout. CC & BOB

2nd: 2990 WARNER, Mr Frank & WARNER, Mrs Pam Talanors Time For Fun This boy is of a lovely size and thought he would be my winner on initial inspection. Lovely to go over, with clean lines, well placed shoulder, good depth and a pleasing topline. Nothing exaggerated in head, but not the eye or ears of the winner. Clear markings throughout. Unfortunately I didn’t see the best of him on the move today and he did not seem to be at ease with his handler. I am sure that crowning CC will come.

3rd: 2974 BARLOW, Mrs Doreen Ch / Talanors Time For Magic. The best mover of the day, one that I have always admired and puts in a performance every time. Worthy champion.

Puppy Bitch (3)

1st: 2986 SHARPE, Mrs V & SHARPE, Miss Laura Rosettia Keepsake. Theres a lot to like about this young lady. Pleasing for overall shape and balance, which she maintains on the move. Pleasing through head, however would prefer smaller ears and these also need to settle, clean neck, with crest and decent front. Good depth and underline. Liked her rear, good croup, tailset and rear angulation. Doesn’t want to grow on anymore. BP

2nd: 2977 BROWN, Mr Gareth & DAVIES, Ms Mandy Wystry Rennie Dubonnet. This youngster presents a good overall shape and balance. Already has substance . pleasing head but ears need to settle. Well marked with rich colours. Little reluctant on the move today.

3rd: 2988 SPAIN, Mrs A & SPAIN, Mr L Nespoli You Are My Sunshine.

Yearling bitch (1)

1st: 2975 BOOT, Mr C Ysabelkid calamity Jane with Harliboo. Well schooled and confident on the move for age. Typical head, good eye, ears need to settle. Compact shape and presented a pleasing picture. Lovely depth to chest, well ribbed and well bodied. Tidy through croup with good tailset. Smart rear angulation and tidy feet. Moved steadily.

Post Grad Bitch (1)

1st: 2986 SHARPE, Mrs V & SHARPE, Miss Laura Rosettia Keepsake

Limit bitch (2)

1st: 2980 CORCORAN, Miss G Digelsa Dash Of Class at Gemris. A size taller than I would prefer in a bitch, but so many more points that ticked the box for me today. This lady excelled In head, typical wedge, dark eye, good dentition and the ears, when attracted finished the picture, set above and lying right above the eye. Clean through a well arched neck, OK in front, excellent depth , good ribbing and a very pleasing underline with good tuck up. Good topline with arch, clean through croup and excellent tailset. Well marked throughout. She was tidy on the move, handled sympathetically by her attentive handler which got the most out of her. Glad to award her the CC (her 3rd)

2nd: 2982 FORSHAW, Mr Peter & FORSHAW, Mrs Janet JANDOR MOONLIGHT MELODY. This one wasn’t playing the game with her handler today, possibly due the the hall conditions. She is just my type, really liked her, nothing exaggerated and fitting well to the standard. Lovely for size, good balance and shape. Well marked throughout and put down in good condition. Feminine head, balanced and tidy correct sized ears, which she was reluctant to use at all today. She moved steadily and true, but looked so nervous in the environment.

Open Bitch (3)

1st: 2976 BROWN, Mr Gareth & DAVIES, Ms Mandy Ch Digelsa Dark Indulgence at Wystry JW. Best mover in the class. Pleasing through typical head, good eye and ears ok. Well made and correct front. Presented a good shape, plenty of substance , good depth and ribbing. Clear markings. Moved well.

2nd: 2984 OLBINSON, Miss Lesley Rattustrap Citra At Carapast. Different type to 1. Feminine through head, fine ears, well set, but tendency to lift. Clean through neck, ok in front, good depth and pleasing topline. Clear markings. Moved steadily.

3rd: 2989 STRAUGHAN, Mrs C & CRIPPS, Mr D Ch Talanors Time To Shine At Mannikai. Worthy champion, good for type. Would prefer cleaner movement.

Veteran Bitch (1)

1st: 2979 CAWLEY, Miss Bethany Ch Marlablue in a Twirl Sh.CM VW. Lovely lady, who I have admired from ringside, even in her older years, she still presents a correct outline and doesn’t disappoint on the move. Feminine throughout, lovely head, clean neck, tidy front , well ribbed, correct croup and tailset. Markings fading but still prominent. Very worth champion and fully deserving of the RCC today.
