MANCHESTER SKC MAY 14 Judge(s): MRS J M MILLER Manchester Terriers I was so looking forward to judging one of my favourite terrier breeds for the first time with CCs, although I had several difference sizes & types I liked the breed qualities within each. I was disappointed to find some youngsters so thin, showing ribs, prominent pin bones & lacking bone. I am hoping the loud echoing & atmospherics within the hall played court to a few with temperamental handling problems which I was so sorry to see & deal with harshly as this is something I have never witnessed in the breed before when in the ring or observing others judging. The overall quality was high with most all in lovely coat condition with substance, I thought movement has improved & was today of a high standard. JD (3,1a) 1 Freer & Priestman’s Felfree Top Oscar, just 6 months with so much time on his side but showing excellent breed type. I preferred his size, compactness & overall balance to my second winner. Correct wedge shaped head, good length to flat skull, small almond shaped dark eyes & well carried & set on ears. Good neck length with nice arch, clean throat & shoulders into a well held back with slight arch into nice set on tail. Lovely substance to his short body with correct ribbing for age. Legs well under & straight & well boned with small hare feet. Correct return stifle with some muscletone & strength to hocks. Presented well in short glossy coat in lovely condition. Needed to settle on the move but once under control showed soundness with drive & reach. BPD; 2 Harrison’s Magpiebank Ash, upstanding 9 months old, on the day felt he was a little too much for me & hope he does not grow on. Masculine head, longish flat skull & narrowing to foreface, nice eye shape, ears little unsettled. Well bodied with enough depth, substance, spring of rib, lovely skin & glossy coat. Straight long legs well under himself, enough bone, little down on pasterns with flat feet. Moved out soundly little side winding not the strength of stride of the 1st. PGD (0). LD (2) 1 Ferguson’s Felfree Rocket, very impressive 23 month old, preferred the long narrow head shape of this dog, correct wedge to good clean muzzle, lips & mouth. Lovely expression from sparkly dark almond shaped eyes. Correctly tapered clean neck set well into shoulders, well angulated into short body with slight rise over loin with slight tuck, substance & depth with sprung ribs, narrow chest with depth, elbows well in & under on straight boned legs & small harelike arched feet, well defined thumb mark above feet. Strong well muscled quarters, well turned stifles & neat hocks. Beautifully presented smooth well clearly marked rich b/t coat in lovely glossy condition. Very free sound mover with good forward reach & rear drive carrying tail well. Very pleased to award CC & finally BOB over a delightful BOS; 2 Olbinson & Kelly’s Paucelin Andoni at Carapast, 3 year old with nice outline, not the head wedge development of 1, nice expressive dark eyes & well set ears. Enough neck well crested, not the layback of shoulder or angulation of 1. Well bodied & ribbed back with slight arch over loin but lost on the move, presented in lovely glossy coat & condition, short tail set on well. Lacking a little in depth of chest & brisket, elbows not close which showed on forward action, well boned legs & small hare feet. Strong rearquarters well muscled, moved out freely with good stride & driving gait. OD (5,2) 1 Dunford, Akrigg & Walton’s Ch Quixol Alexander, really liked the overall outline & balance of this male. Lovely long narrow head with correct wedge to fine lips, small sweet expressive almond shaped eyes & well hung ears. Strong correctly tapering crested neck into clean well angulated shoulders & firm well held topline with nicely arched over his loin. Correct narrow front with depth, body well ribbed with slight tuck, substance, super smooth short cleanly marked b/t coat of lovely texture & condition. Well rounded & muscular quarters, lovely short tail, well set on & carried, correctly bent stifles, well turned & muscled strong neat hocks. Straight boned forelegs set well under to neat harelike feet with strong arched toes, nice thumbprints. Not as positive on the move, lacking that drive behind of my winner. RCC, close decision; 2 Saville’s Calastoa’s Man In The Mirror of Dobermatian, slightly smaller male with a good outline & a nice type but on the move outline spoiled by pinned on tail being carried far too high. Narrow wedge shaped head with masculine strengths, lovely dark appealing eyes & well hung & carried small ears, correct clean long neck & nice arch into clean shoulders, good topline, tailset could be better. Strong hindquarters well muscled & with good return of stifle & short hocks. Lovely front angles & depth, nice ribs & tuck, well coated & in nice condition. Nice legs & arched feet, unfortunately lacked the drive or action of 1; 3 Knight’s Westbank Blue Diamond for Talanors. VD (0). JB (9,1) 1 Walshaw’s Digelsa Diva avec Janmark, having watched with interest this youngster from a baby I was delighted to finally get my hands on her. Smaller, elegant & compact with all the bits in the right places. Devine head correctly shaped, lovely dark sparkling almond shaped eyes & neat small ears well hung & used. Arched neck of length & clean throat into sloping shoulders, super backline & set on of short tail. Strong well bodied for her size with well sprung ribs & slightly arched behind them, well angulated front & rear. Well muscled throughout, lovely skin & smooth glossy clearly marked coat, well proportioned straight legs to harelike feet with arched toes, correct thumbprint, really sound mover with good reach forward & driving action from the rear. Should have a bright future; 2 Peacham’s Felfree A Touch Of Glam, if this baby continues to develop as she has now she should have the name to go with it, she is very pretty & stood out in this class for her elegance & beautiful head, eye & ears, super crest to her neck & clean sloping shoulders, lovely topline to short tail well set on & carried. Beautiful body with substance, depth & lovely ribbing, super skin tone & correctly marked b/t coat of smooth texture. Narrow forechest, depth & angles, strong rearquarters, stifle well muscled & turned, really cute mover showing lots of forward action & power from behind for one so young. BPB & BP; 3 Symington’s Talanors Secret Treat. PGB (2) Withheld. LB (4,1) 1 Harrison’s Sophyla Sophie, I have judged this lovely feminine lady before & today she stood out for elegance of outline with super substance & body depth, in beautiful skin & rich marked coat in lovely condition. Very well developed head with correct tapering wedge & dark sparkling expressive eyes, correct ear shape & well set but today I found one of her ears to be poorly held which spoilt her expression. Crested neck & clean throat, well laid sloping shoulders & firm slightly arched topline to a short tail well set on & carried. Correct depth to narrow chest, elbows held well in on legs held well under herself. Well muscled hindquarters with good bend of stifle, short straight hocks & correct feet. Best class mover with free forward action & sound driving rear covered the ground well; 2 Wicker’s Mimbre Solitaire, still retaining loads of quality this 6 year old with correct breed outline & lots of elegance. Feminine narrow wedge shaped head clean tapering to good mouth, small well used ears & dark almond shaped eyes. Good length of neck, backline & tail length & set. Well angulated front & rear, with good body depth, substance & ribs well sprung back to arching loin. Well presented glossy coat. Moved out well on good legs & feet, just preferred side stride & drive of 1; 3 Smith’s Calastoa’s Lady Of Meltham at Simjest. OD (4,1) 1 Oxley’s Ch Digelsa De Ja Vu, what a beautiful bitch, I have read & heard so much about, so it was nice to have the opportunity to judge her. Such elegance, breed type with lovely outline & correctly balanced with a fabulous clearly marked b/t coat, smooth texture of skin in glossy condition. Stunning head so well shaped & correctly developed, beautiful dark expressive eyes & neat hung ears well used. Beautiful crested neck set well into sloping shoulders. Firm correctly held backline to set on short tail well carried on the move, lovely shoulder & upper arm angles, narrow chest with depth, elbows held in on straight forelegs well under herself, body with substance, depth & well sprung ribs, well muscled throughout rearquarters with strength & well turned stifle short hocks. Good thumb print above nicely shaped feet. Very free mover with lovely side stride & sound both ends. CC, in the challenge felt she just lacked the effort shown on the class; 2 Dunford & Akrigg’s Paucelin Armana by Quixol, slightly smaller than 1 with lovely overall balance, not as confident on the table as my winner, but I was able to go over & judge her. Delightful head, correctly shaped, well filled in under her eye which were small dark & bright. Use of well set on & hung ears. Long length of crested neck into sloping shoulders, firm topline held well on the stance but levelled out on the move. Excelled in front & rear angles with muscletone. Well bodied with substance & good sprung ribs, well coated & marked correctly, nice straight legs & arched toes on harelike feet, moved out with enough forward action & rear drive & was sound both ends. RCC; 3 Steel’s Brookstream Blue Lady. VB (0). JENNY MILLER |
