Thank you for this excellent entry with some quality dogs right down the line. On past occasions, the choice has all too often been between typy dogs that lacked in conformation & movement, & others that were constructed well & moved accordingly, but were sadly lacking in type. It seems that at last a balance has been reached & I found enough dogs with both type & soundness to satisfy even me. Those who have shown under me in the past know that shoulders have been a bugbear of mine for a long, long time. I was hopeful when I judged last that things seemed to be improving, here I had almost universally good shoulder placement, & breeders should be justifiably proud of the improvement in this direction. Movement is still a cause for concern, those that really moved well were in the minority. Not surprisingly, those that moved best were also the best conditioned, so the remedy is in your own hands! I was pleased to see several smooths of excellent coat quality & also quite a few in full coat. While it is tempting to go down the route of over-presentation, please don’t ever forget the words of the Standard ‘essentially a working terrier’, a Parson needs a good coat & pelt. Mouths were pretty good on the whole, nice big teeth, although some could be a little cleaner, missing premolars are still found from time to time. Size was better than in the past, with no really huge dogs, but a couple of bitches who would have looked more at home in the dog classes. My two CC winners pleased me enormously, it was good to learn that both were winning their third CC on the day. PD (5) 1 Mister Bonamonty, well, what a great start, really super puppy, correct size, excellent neck & shoulder, excellent coat. A little untidy in front movement but that will come with time, but real reach & drive. RCC & BP; 2 Pacolito Pretender, another really nice one, close up & many of the same comments apply, well carried tail. Just a little deeper in chest; 3 Pacolito Promised. JD (3,1a) 1 Kannye Bolt Em Out, nice type, coat OK, good neck & shoulder, good tailset, well angulated; 2 Horncall Ice, of correct size but heavier in bone, not spannable. Good length of back. PGD (6) Good to see two nice smooths in this class. 1 Olliebark Star Performer, really nice for type, excellent size, good head, nice neck & shoulder, good coat; 2 Cleevehill Full Monty, of correct size, good angulation, super neck & shoulder, excellent coat. Just didn’t move as well as 1; 3 Ratscallion How Dare Yer. LD (6,1) 1 Cassacre Mandolin, one who needs to be handled to appreciate his many qualities, in full coat which gave a less defined outline that some others, moved on a loose lead to show his free-striding action, good shoulder, excellent bone & feet, good coat quality; 2 Windynook Jeckyl Or Hide, close up, lovely shoulder, many excellent qualities. Just preferred more typical head of 1; 3 Bradpole Blanc de Blancs. OD (5,1) 1 Sp/Port/Gib Ch Muhlross Melrosian, lovely dog of correct size, excellent coat, easily spanned, correct topline, moved well, showed & handled to perfection. CC; 2 Cassacre Kabin Boy, like his kennelmate in Limit, this is one to be handled & appreciated. Not as eyecatching as 1 but lovely typy boy. Easily spanned, excellent full coat; 3 Ch/Ir/Int Ch Kylini Celtic Wizzard. PB (10,2) Super class, will change places many times as they mature, I’m sure. 1 Heythrop Tiadrop, lovely size & type, moved with great scope, lovely neck & shoulder, good tail carriage; 2 Bradpole Bakewell Tart, super smooth, excellent quality coat, lovely neck & shoulder, moving well; 3 Pacolito Priority at Windynook. JB (6) 1 Frithgarth Jenny Wren, maybe a surprising choice for first place, so let’s get the faults out of the way first. Her eye is too big & round, she needs another inch or so on her legs & she is a little too well-off for bone, but… judging should be about rewarding virtues, & one thing this young lady has to perfection that no other dog in the whole entry showed is her absolutely correct for the breed movement. It’s something that is seen so rarely nowadays, as exhibitors endeavour to present their terriers as smart show dogs, but this easy gait was an original part of the breed’s heritage. Super coat, typical head, excellent angulation; 2 Horncall Wizz A Dora by Rutaaro, it’s a cliché to write ‘unlucky to meet 1’ but nevertheless very true in this case. This was my winner as the class came in the ring, lovely size, good angulation, easily spanned, lovely outline in profile with correct topline; 3 Mindlen Blue Bottle at Hoolmark. PGB (7,1) 1 Amagical Dream, liked her as a puppy & haven’t changed my opinion. Lovely size, super full coat, excellent neck & shoulder, moved well; 2 Mindlen Moth of Ilexquercus, of nice size & shape, very similar to 1 in most respects, pushed hard for 1st place. Heavily ticked coat didn’t appeal, but wasn’t penalised; 3 Warden Law Stitch. LB (8,1) 1 Heythrop Tia, really lovely bitch of super type, lovely neck & shoulder, correct head, ears & topline. I was willing her to put a little more into her showing as 2 & 3 were both such excellent movers, just did enough to clinch this place. More enthusiasm would have seen the CC winner pushed harder. RCC; 2 Olliebark That’s My Girl, super type, excellent coat, nice size, good angulation, great movement; 3 Bethane Hulabaloo. OB (6,1) 1 Mindlen Midge at Glendream, good size, super coat, good angulation, excellent movement, handled & presented to perfection; 2 Heythrop Topsy, very close up & a hard decision for the RCC, similar in type & quality to the LB winner, another that didn’t want to put all in when moving; 3 Starlight Express at Olliebark.
